The Skinny on Triglycerides

What are Triglycerides?

Simply put, it is a type of fat found in your body. When you eat your body uses the calories for energy. If you eat more than you body uses the extra, left over calories gets stored and converted to triglycerides in your fat cells, for later use. If you constantly eat more than you burn you may have high triglycerides. High Triglycerides levels increase your risks of strokes and heart disease.

The good news is that high triglycerides can totally be managed and lowered with proper exercise and diet, and can be done without the use of drugs. fat

The most important change you can make now is making sure you are either utilizing the calories you eat by getting the proper amount of aerobic exercise, or only eating as much as your currently lifestyle requires; which means you may have to cut your portions and improve your food choices.

Another change you can make now is cutting the amount of simple charbs you eat. Yes, this means breads, pastas, pastries, white rice, potatoes, or any other starchy foods. Carbs turn into to sugar (glucose) and glucose turns into fats (triglycerides).(1)

The best foods to eat are foods that are lean proteins, low sugar, whole grains and green leafy vegetables. Adding supplements such as Omega-3s is also a good way to support lowering your Triglycerides level.

Diet and exercise is crucial to lowering your triglyceride level.
